Cleaning out the grilled cheese machine

I have this machine that basically makes grilled cheese sandwiches. Its a machine that was sent from god to make me happy and it does it very well. It can grill two sandwiches at one time. Almost every time i use it, some cheese will melt on to the machine but i almost never clean it until the next time i use it. I don't clean it because it usually very warm and i don't want to end my life by combining a plugged in grilled cheese machine and water. I'm a rather clean person with I deal with living with roommates. I clean the kitchen every time I cook. The only thing I might leave in the sink is a spoon or possibly a bowl. But I will never clean the machine. So far none of my roommates have used the machine but I'm not sure if that's because its always so dirty or they just don't like grilled cheese sandwiches(happiness haters, they must be) Since I have two new roommates I wonder how they are going to handle the situation with having a rather dirty machine in the kitchen. Now I need to go get the sandwiches
